The local pushbutton control system used to operate the University of Phoenix Stadium retractable field is “as sophisticated as it needs to be and no more”. The portable control station plugs into the leading edge of the retractable field, allowing the operator to closely monitor the moving equipment during operation. The operator simply presses the RUN pushbutton, and the 9,450-ton field begins to move.
