The University of Phoenix Stadium retractable roof is moved along the arced travel path by a cable drive system mounted to the two roof panels. Each roof panel is equipped with four cable drums that spool cable anchored to the fixed roof above the 50-yard line. Each cable drum is powered by four 7.5 horsepower motors, moving the roof at a maximum speed of 25 feet per minute.
