The outdoor terrace at Juvia, a high-end restaurant on a ninth-story rooftop in Miami Beach is protected by an En-Fold. The terrace seats 60 patrons who are treated to breathtaking views of South Beach and Miami on one side, a beautiful living wall on the other, and the open sky above. With the touch of a button, restaurant staff extend the En-Fold 55 feet across the top of the terrace to protect patrons from wind, rain, and excessive sunshine, allowing them to enjoy the outdoor space during the heat of the day and in the worst rainstorms. During the restaurant’s off-hours, the En-Fold remains open to allow the sunshine to sustain the living wall. For Juvia’s owners, the En-Fold provides all the benefits of outdoor dining while allowing them to serve at full capacity regardless of weather.
En-Fold’s modular design provides affordability, while its structural design accommodates large spans and heavy wind loads, thus filling the market niche between awnings and custom retractable roofs. Patented drive beams provide the En-Fold structural support and house the mechanization components. Idler beams hang perpendicular to the drive beams and connect the fabric panels together. These pre-engineered subassemblies are sized and configured to accommodate a multitude of spaces and applications. In each configuration, drive beams are widely spaced and the idler beams and fabric panels rest out of sight when retracted, resulting in an open feel and a clear view of the sky.
The En-Fold is constructed with SEFAR Architecture TENARA Fabric, a fluoropolymer-coated fabric woven from ePTFE (expanded polytetraflouroethelene). The thin, lightweight fabric allows 40% light transmission while effectively blocking 100% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. When deployed, the connections between the tensioned fabric panels and the aluminum idler beams create a flat, watertight seal.
The En-Fold reduces over 40 mph rooftop wind speeds to a pleasant terrace breeze, and patrons stay cool and dry as they enjoy the panoramic city views. When the sun goes down and the wind dies, the En-Fold is retracted and patrons dine under the beautiful starlit sky. With the En-Fold, the owners at Juvia can consistently provide premium outdoor dining, and they need never have an open table.Contact
