Solid Motor Assembly Building: Vertical Lift Door

TThe 250-foot-high vertical lift door for the Solid Motor Assembly Building supports the Titan IV launch program. This 300,000 pound door is counter-weighted with a unique single counter-weight counterbalancing five multiple door sections which open and closed in unison to protect the building.

The vertical lift door will withstand 200 mph hurricane force winds and maintain a Class 10 clean room environment inside of the structure. The project included an integral maintenance system with ladders and maintenance access as well as a counterweight jacking system all included as part of the initial installation.
